PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS - I'm starting
this section because of a problem I've recently had and
to help others who have pc issues:
Of
course there are hundreds of reasons why this might be
the case, however I just wanted to mention that an
often forgetten cause of slow windows can be a
cluttered desktop!
(Incidentally, windows will load slower the more fonts
you have installed)
Further info and what I've done so far:
General cleaning:
R removing unused software and files
Defragging
Registry Cleaning
Removing process' that don't need to run in the background
Changing what programs load on startup
1.
Websites with Flash content issue: Wasn't
able to view flash content on various sites and got
the their standard, 'please download the latest version
of Flash player to view flash content' message.
Now, I knew I already had the latest
flash player on my pc and even when I'd download it again,
I still wasn't able to see flash and got the
same 'please get flash...' messages.
After much grief, I realised it was because one of my
pc 'cleaning' (specifically registry cleaners) programs
was removing regsitry files needed for playing flash content.
FIX:
* DOWNLOAD A FLASH UNINSTALLER
* USE IT TO COMPLETELY REMOVE FLASH PLAYER.
* REINSTALL FLASH PLAYER OFF ANY WEBSITE
THAT PROMPTS YOU TO. (MAY
NEED RESTART)
TO
STOP IT HAPPENING AGAIN: DON'T USE "RegScrub(XP)"
- THIS SEEMS TO BE THE OFFENDING CLEANER. USE
WINDOWS REG CLEANER OR GET "Easy Cleaner" (WHICH
IS SO GOOD FOR MUCH MORE THAN REG-CLEANS AND IS VERY EASY
TO USE!)

E-MAIL PROBLEM (Eudora) |
|
(I.e. RECIEPIANTS NOT RECEIVING SENT MAIL)
SPECIFICALLY TO Eudora 7 USERS, but is
likely to occur with many e-mail programs that are basic/simple/freeware.
It
took me over a week to find the cause of the
problem and over 25 test e-mails, over 10 e-mails
back and forth with Eudora helpdesk and 3
phone calls to my ISP (Iinet
- who eventually helped me isolate the problem)
FIX:
DO NOT USE 'COMPLEX' CODE (HTML, DYNAMIC, STYLED
TEXT ETC) IN YOUR SIGNATURE.
This
will vary (I was able to have text links,
and occasionally a linked image would work)...
The killer, for me, was the linked banner
in combination with text and linked text in my signature.
TO
STOP IT HAPPENING AGAIN: I now don't
use Linked Images in my signature.
NOTES
ON EUDORA 7 (PAID MODE):
EUDORA
DOES NOT SUPPORT THAT KIND OF CODE IN
SIGNATURES
(Even though they claim to! - The reason I baught
'Paid Mode' is specifically to include clickable banners
in my e-mail signatures)
From
Eudora tech support:
"That code is too advanced for Eudora - Eudora
is not able to convert this type of code."
Incidentally,
the code was very very basic HTML and nore does Eudora
7 have any way to edit the HTML of the e-mails you are
composing.
I'd
say spending over $20 to be able to use hyperlinked images
in your signature and then NOT being able to do so makes
Eudora a poor software provider!
Hope
this will help any future Eudora user's headaches!
